Wow.
I hate to make excuses but the Christmas and New Year’s holidays (and related travel) definitely messed with my schedule and running plan. The good news is that I had a really nice holiday and feel well rested (and well fed). The bad news is that here’s a list of my recent runs:
- 12/17 - 6.22 miles in 1:09:29 (11:10/mi)
- 12/27 - 3.11 miles in 29:27 (9:28/mi)
- 1/1 - 3.11 miles in 29:33 (9:30/mi)
To make matters worse, I had a bit of a cold (again) from 12/18-12/30. Mostly a runny nose thing, but I was concerned it was going to move back into my chest like last time. Thankfully, although I’m still not exactly 100%, I feel pretty much fine.
Today’s New Year’s Day run was interesting. Inspired in part by Eric, I attempted my first run with Abby (aka The Abbinator), the dog. Things were a little chaotic for the first mile, but she was getting the idea by the second mile. By the third mile, she was actually doing really well. I’m not sure how often I’ll be taking her with me, but it certainly makes the run more interesting… even if we had to make a few pitstops along the way (for her, not me).

So hopefully everyone had a good holiday. I know I did. And I like to think of it less as two weeks of overeating and being a couch potato… and more as two weeks of hardcore carbo loading to prepare for my next race. ;)
Game on.
I think they go through this cycle… First, they are so excited to be out running with you, they are idiots. Then, they get a little tired and start to be a little more cooperative. Then, they get really tired and they go where ever you tell them to. That’s a pretty dog. Looks just like my lab. How old is she?
Hey Eric,
Abby thanks you for the kind words. :) We’re unsure of her exact age because we adopted her from the SPCA, but she’s about five years old. She’s a lab mix of some sort (~50 lbs); fairly small and extremely fast.
I’m not sure she’ll be part of my regular running routine, but I’ll definitely be taking her out again in the near future.
