The One Hundred Push-ups site has apparently been generating some buzz lately. It’s basically a six week training plan that claims to be able to take just about anyone and get them doing 100 push-ups in a row using only “a good plan, plenty of discipline and about 30 minutes a week.” Honestly, I’m a little bit skeptical, but after reading that Eric started the plan on Tuesday, I’m now interested in trying it.
Just in case there’s any question as to what a push-up is, here’s what Wikipedia has to say:
A press-up (UK English), or push-up (USA English), is a common strength training exercise performed in a prone position, lying horizontal and face down, raising and lowering the body using the arms. They develop the pectoral muscles and triceps, with ancillary benefits to the deltoids, serratus anterior, coracobrachialis and the midsection as a whole.
There are three “difficulty” tracks for the plan, based on how many push-ups you can do before beginning. I’ll definitely be using the lowest/easiest track.
So far Nate, Christian, and The Hath are in, with all of us starting on Monday (6/23).
Who else is in? Post a comment below if you are interested!
I’m in the second to last week of the HH10K plan…
For W7D3 I had 45 minutes of cross-training on the schedule, and did some simple circuit training. The “circuit” was: 10 minutes light weights, 10 minutes treadmill, 5 minutes medicine ball, 10 minutes elliptical, and 10 minutes floor/ab work. I was feeling surprisingly good at the end, so I went out for a mile jog to cool down.
My next “long” run is on Sunday… 5.5 miles according to the plan. Last week I did 10K instead, and expect to do the same this week as well.
Tonight was W7D2 of the HH10K plan. Did a slow 5K that wasn’t particularly notable.
The good news is that I hit 13.82 miles last week (6/9 – 6/15) and I’m on track to do the same this week (or a bit more). Here’s a relatively recent monthly graph:

It’s still a far cry from my 20+ mile weeks that I was logging back in the fall/winter months, but I think I’m slowly getting back to where I was.
Eeep! Check out those photos, and the note at the end about the cracked helmet!
Lack of sleep and slight dehydration caused me to postpone my HH10K W4D7 run until today. The weather was perfect and the run felt good, and I’m happy (?) to say I had a new first tonight… namely, I swallowed my first bug while running.
Probably a gnat or something, but it (of course) felt quite large and was well past the point of spitting it out.
I’d like to say it happened because I’m just that fast, but more likely it was because I was sucking air so hard I pulled him in from across the street.
