Lambda is here to stay

Back in March 2005, Guido wrote in The fate of reduce() in Python 3000 that he felt that lambda should be dropped because it was potentially confusing and probably unnecessary. Now his opinion appears to have changed…

Quoth Guido in a post to python-dev today (Super Bowl Sunday?!):

After so many attempts to come up with an alternative for lambda, perhaps we should admit defeat. I’ve not had the time to follow the most recent rounds, but I propose that we keep lambda, so as to stop wasting everybody’s talent and time on an impossible quest.

From what I’ve read, the reaction has been fairly positive.

Thanks to Voicespace for pointing it out.
