Sounds like a viable reason for a switchover. I know that I'd probably be running OSX if they offered it for non-Apple hardware. I'd look into Ruby more, but Python seems to be what's in use at work, so I'm focusing on that for now.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments and (reasonable) questions.

I guess the short answer (re: Apple) is much like Nate said... all the cool parts of Linux (terminal, ssh, X11, Python/Ruby, etc.) without any of the sucky parts. So far, I'm very happy with it. I'll probably post the long answer after I've had a chance to play with it some more.

As for Ruby vs. Python... I just wanted to look into something new. No special reason. So far RoR seems pretty nifty.

More to come...

Considering he used Windows before, I am guessing he wanted the power of Unix, without all the "not working" of Linux desktops

I'll be revoking your Pythonista license now..

Seriously, though, what prompted the changes?

The hardware/software lock-in is the main reason I have avoided Apple computers; and why I'm starting to hate my iPod. And why I don't own an iPhone.

Aside from that, Macbook/Pro's aren't as innovative as I originally thought; they just have more polish than PCs. And with Dell finally getting its act together with the M1330, I'm not sure that the polish is worth the other detractors.

Any particular reason why? Ruby I can understand because it does have interesting things; Apples though? Why jump into software/hardware lock-in?
