Temperature sensor back up
Thursday, December 1st, 2005Long time readers of the site know that a while back I had two Dallas Semiconductor DS18S20 sensors connected to one of my Linux boxes. Cron would periodically run digitemp that would walk the 1-Wire bus and grab the temperature in my office and outside. The data was then logged/graphed via Cacti.
Pretty slick system… until the outdoor sensor started throwing errors and eventually died. Then I moved to a new house and never got around to hooking up the sensors again.
Tonight I removed the dead sensor from the bus and hooked the remaining one back up:

Nice! Looks like at least that one still works. Time to weatherproof another spare sensor and run it outside.
Now I need to look into PySerial.
